ELAFONISOS

ELAFONISOS

Once you cross the shallow Strait of Elafonisos, you enter another world. The only thing you’ll need is a sarong, a sun hat and sunscreen, because, whether night or day, life here happens on the beach – on the pure white sand, in the translucent turquoise water, in the shade of the cedars and under the clear blue sky and the bright sun. All that and plenty of history and myths to fill your dreams as you stretch out to enjoy this uniquely relaxing location.

This little island is a small paradise for visitors. Simos beach, lining Sarakiniko Bay, is without a doubt one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean, putting you in mind of the Caribbean. It is a vast expanse of pure white sand with sapphire waters through which the seabed is always visible! When you can drag yourself away from this magnificence, you must taste the fresh fish at the picturesque little port, visit the Lower Island with Panagia’s beach and make a point of admiring the prickly cedars, bushes native to the Mediterranean best not encountered at close quarters! If you are looking for an extra indulgence, rent a boat and discover beautiful unspoilt beaches, sea caves and the spell-binding ruins of the sunken ancient city of Pavlopetri. If you visit the island during the last 10 days of August do not forget the “Fisherman’s Feast”, an authentic “panigiri”, the traditional Greek village fayre, with live music and dancing, lots of wine and sea food.
