Transportation Details for TBEX Europe 2023
Greece is served by national air companies – as well as dozens of international carriers –
and includes international airports in Athens, Kalamata, Araxos, as well as Thessaloniki, and
other locations. The Peloponnese is situated in south Greece and can be easily reached by
air, train, bus or car, or a combination of these. Kalamata is just a 3-hour drive from the country’s capital.
AIR TRAVEL
Flying to Kalamata
Kalamata is a very well-connected city in the Peloponnese as it has an airport with direct flights from many European cities such as London, Milan, Munich, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Vienna, and of course Athens and Thessaloniki, the two cities in Greece that are connected to the world by overseas flights.
The Kalamata Airport is located 9km west (15 minutes) of the city center and is connected to the city of Kalamata through regular bus schedules.

Athens International Airport has direct flights to USA and Europe and is located just under 3 hour’s drive from Kalamata.

BUS TRAVEL
If flying to Athens or Thessaloniki, fast new roads will take you to Kalamata smoothly. Bus service is available from both major cities and smaller ones in the region of the Peloponnese.
The Peloponnese region is connected via a thick network of
scheduled routes by Intercity buses (KTEL), which comply with all modern specifications for safer and more enjoyable transportation of passengers.

TRAIN TRAVEL
If flying to Athens, an alternative way to travel to Kalamata is by train, departing at regular intervals from the Athens Airport and taking you all the way to Corinth. A Taxi ride will then be required to the Intercity Bus station to continue by Bus to Kalamata, a total trip of about 3 hours.

PRIVATE CAR TRAVEL
If you choose to rent a car from Athens (239km distance) you will need approximately 2 ½ hours to reach Kalamata. Thessaloniki is quite further (715km distance) and you will need about 6.5 hours to reach your destination. Numerous car rental companies are available at both Athens and Kalamata airports as well as of course in the cities of Athens and Kalamata.
MOVING AROUND THE CITY
Walking around the city of Kalamata is pleasant and you will enjoy the beautiful coastline. However, public bus service is available both for in-city transfers and transfers to neighboring villages. Bus tickets can be issued on location. Taxis are also available around the city with an average cost of 5 euros for a 5km distance.
SEA TRAVEL
Primarily from Italy, the most important destination port is that of Patras, which is a ‘bridge’ city for those wishing to visit the Peloponnese by sea.
